De Tirrel

Elderly care, education and sports under one roof. Two layers of PETpanel turn the central heart into a calm, recognisable meeting place.

Winsum, Groningen

Where people come together, a space should feel right.

De Tirrel brings elderly care, a primary school, education and sport together under one roof. Each group has its own place within the star-shaped building. In the central heart, residents, children, staff and visitors naturally meet.

This is where acoustics and a recognisable identity play a leading role. The large blue tree walls bring calm to the open space and give the central volume a character of its own.

Layered design

Two shades of blue. One powerful landscape.

The tree walls are built from two layers of 9 mm PETpanel. The lower layer is finished in Midnight Blue 38, with Dark Blue 01 above it. The colour difference gives the stylised trees depth without adding visual noise.

The pattern follows the changing angles of the building and refers to the nearby Roekenbos. This creates a natural connection between the architecture, its surroundings and the people who use De Tirrel every day.

The soft, tactile surface works for users of all ages. The tree pattern brings a natural touch to the interior.
