Schiphol Airport

A dynamic airport calls for solutions that seamlessly combine appearance, acoustics and technology. For The Cloud in Schiphol's Lounge 1, we created a unique ceiling landscape of undulating acoustic baffles.

Where architecture and acoustics come together

In Schiphol's Lounge 1, The Cloud forms a striking focal point above the Duty Free Shop. The design is inspired by Dutch skies and their characteristic cumulus clouds. The organic shapes give the space its own identity while contributing to a pleasant acoustic environment.

The challenge was to translate the expressive design into a stable ceiling structure that could be manufactured. Working with architect Twelve-Studio UK, Bright Acoustics and Matude, we developed a bespoke PETpanel solution. The result is a ceiling in which design, acoustics and technical precision reinforce one another.

Details that make the difference

Undulating bespoke design on a grand scale

Together, the undulating baffles form a refined grid that floats like a cloud above the retail space. Each shape has been carefully developed to preserve the flowing lines of the design. Special dovetail joints connect the individual elements, while a continuous U-profile provides stability and a clean installation.

The result is an iconic ceiling that adds movement and softness to the space. A fully bespoke solution that visibly brings together craftsmanship, smart engineering and acoustic comfort.
